South Bronx Community Health Leaders
About Us
Located in the South Bronx, we are the South Bronx Community Health Leaders. We are a group of pre-health students, volunteers, and professionals that have come together to lend our support to one another, our clinics, and our underserved communities. We are located at the intersection of three of the poorest congressional districts in the country (Morrisania, Mott Haven, and Hunts Point). These communities have a large immigrant and undocumented population and many people affected by homelessness. Food and digital deserts are also widespread. We have mobilized our advocacy efforts to meet the needs of our people during these historic and isolating times.
Beyond being a volunteer program, we pride ourselves on being a true family. As such, we strongly believe in
supporting each other to reach our goals of becoming healthcare professionals, while working together to serve the
local South Bronx community.
Our Mission
The South Bronx Community Health Leaders (SBxCHL) is a student-driven peer support group for socioeconomically disadvantaged and/or underrepresented minority students seeking careers in healthcare. SBxCHL facilitates networking, provides guidance and mentoring, engages in community service with a focus on advocacy, and helps develop the leadership skills essential to becoming a healthcare provider.
